Does Alli work?

losing weight
This is a very common question relating to Alli.

Put simply, Alli does work if you are prepared to work alongside it and lose weight in a healthy and sustainable manner.

It is the first pharmacy-licensed weight loss treatment to be made available over-the-counter without a prescription in the UK. The fact that Alli is pharmacy-licensed means that it has undergone rigorous clinical testing to ensure its safety and effectiveness. This clinical validation is one of the most important differences between Alli and the many other weight loss products currently available on the market. Alli does not make any false claims that cannot be backed up.

The Alli diet pill works by preventing a proportion of dietary fat from being absorbed by the body during digestion. This is done by the inhibition of gastric lipase, an enzyme used by our body to break down ingested fats in the gut. Through inhibiting the actions of gastric lipase, Alli can prevent the absorption of around 25% of the fat we eat.

Will Alli work for me?

Alli is no wonder drug, nor does it claim to be one. It is designed to be taken alongside regular exercise and a reduced-fat diet, in coordination with a healthier lifestyle program.

Alli will not work by itself, it simply enhances your existing weight loss program, giving you a helping hand in achieving your weight loss goals. If you take Alli, but continue with unhealthy eating habits, then it won't be very effective.

As previously mentioned, Alli prevents around 25% of the fat you eat from being absorbed. This undigested fat comes out in the stool, so if you are still eating too much fat, you may experience some unpleasant side effects. As each Alli diet pill works on one meal at a time, it is recommended that you stick to the suggested 15g of fat per meal allowance. This 15g is the recommended maximum, anything less is good, anything more, not so. If you are prepared to work with Alli and stick to the Alli diet plan, it can help you to lose an extra 1lb of weight for every 2lb you lose by yourself.

Please note that Alli only works on dietary fat. It doesn't stop excess sugar or refined carbohydrates from being absorbed. An unhealthy diet featuring high quantities of these can lead to other health problems, such as heart disease and diabetes.

Alli is only suitable for adults over the age of 18, with a BMI of 28 or over. If you are unsure about your BMI, we have a handy BMI calculator that will let you know if Alli is suitable for you. It can calculate both metric and imperial measurements to give you speedy results at the touch of a button.
