Vaginitis is an inflammation of the vagina. Infections such as thrush (candidiasis), trichomoniasis and bacterial vaginosis are the most common cause of vaginitis, but allergic reactions to products such as soap, perfume or rubber can also be responsible.
Symptoms of vaginitis can be a change in both the colour and smell of vaginal discharge, an itching or burning sensation in the vagina and a discomfort in the vagina during intercourse or when urinating.
It can often be tricky to diagnose which you are suffering as sometimes you may be suffering a mixed infection. If you notice a thin, frothy vaginal discharge which may be yellow or green in colour accompanied by a strong vaginal smell we advise you to see your doctor.
Fortunately, vaginitis treatments are as simple as applying a cream such as Vagisil.
