An important message from Express Chemist

In these unprecedented times due to COVID-19 we are listening to the latest advice from the government and their health specialists. We are continuing to work in these challenging times so that we can serve the needs of our customers.

Please note that we are receiving a particularly high volume of orders, enquiries, telephone calls and emails. With a depleted team we are working exceptionally hard to process orders and respond to customer enquiries. Unfortunately it is currently taking longer to process and dispatch orders than usual, so please allow up to 5 working days for shipment.

Please also note that postal services and couriers are experiencing similar challenges so please allow longer delivery times than usual. We would be grateful if you can be patient and not contact us regarding your order before these times are up so we can reduce the pressure on our customer service team.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Keep well and stay safe.

Nappy Rash

image Nappy Rash

Nappy rash is a common irritation of the skin that most babies will get at some point. The term nappy rash is generally used to describe any type of rash or skin condition in the nappy area. Usually, nappy rash is caused by your child's skin being in contact with a soiled or wet nappy for too long. Over time, the urine and faeces inside a dirty nappy can turn into ammonia, which can begin to eat into your baby's skin and cause irritation. This cause of nappy rash is known as irritant dermatitis.

In most cases of nappy rash, the skin will usually become sore and irritated under and around the nappy; occasionally this will spread down the legs or up to the abdomen. The irritated skin will come out in pink or red spots or blotches. Nappy rash can also be caused by a fungal infection due to dampness inside the nappy. This is commonly caused by Candida albicans, leading to the condition being termed candida nappy rash or nappy candidiasis. A nappy rash caused by a fungal infection can be particularly unpleasant for a baby as it can sting the skin when the nappy is soiled.

Nappy rash can be made worse by a tight nappy as this will rub the baby's skin and prevent air from circulating. Don't feel guilty about nappy rash, it can still occur with regular changes and cleansing. If you are concerned about the severity of nappy rash you should consult a healthcare professional. Be prepared with our range of products below. For further advice, please visit our nappy rash FAQs page.
