UVA/UVB, broad spectrum, SPF and star ratings explained:

The sun protection factor, or SPF, is a measure of the amount of ultraviolet B radiation (UVB) protection these are rated from 2-50+.
The star rating used on UK sunscreens means the amount of UVA protection offered in a sunscreen, 5 stars being the highest protection.
European Sunscreens have the letters UVA inside a circle this means that the UVA protection is at least one third of the products SPF rating.
Sunscreens that offer both UVA and UVB protection are sometimes called broad spectrum.
