Eye Cleaning

image Eye Cleaning

Foreign bodies such as dust, dirt and make-up enter our eyes on a daily basis. We humans are well equipped to deal with these unwanted visitors; blinking and tear production are natural reactions that we encounter regularly, and, more often than not, they get the job done.

However, our eyes sometimes need a little help with cleaning, particularly if an illness such as blepharitis or dry eye syndrome is also a factor.

Eye bathing is excellent at removing dust, grit and oily build-ups from the eye. Using an eye bath alongside a special eye wash solution allows a thorough clean. Eye conditions or poor make-up removal can lead to a crusting of the eyelids. In cases of crusting an eyelid cleaning routine is recommended.

How To Clean Your Eyes

Using Eye Wash

When cleaning the eyes with eye wash, it is best to best to use the eye wash in conjunction with an eye bath. Both our Optrex Eye Wash and Numark Maximeyes Eye Wash come with an eye bath already included in the pack. We also sell individual eye baths if you need one for a family member.
  • Begin to fill the eye bath with eye wash until it is 1/3rd full.
  • Tilt your head forwards and hold the eye bath over the eye.
  • Slowing raise your head while opening your eye, letting the eye wash to wash over the surface of the eye.
  • Gently move your head back and forth for about 30 seconds.
  • Repeat for the other eye and discard the eye wash after use.
  • Sterilize the eye bath if it will be used by someone else.

Cleaning the Eyelids

If your eyelids become crusted-up due to a build up of matter or from illness, daily cleaning will help alleviate any discomfort.
  • Wet a flannel, cloth, cotton wool or other compress with warm water and gently apply to the closed eye for 5-10 minutes.
  • Rub the closed eyelids with a gentle motion to start loosening any crusting and debris. Do this for 2-3 minutes, repeating if necessary.
  • Moisten a cotton bud, flannel or cloth with warm water and apply a little cleansing solution or diluted baby shampoo. Gently clean the edges of the eyelids to remove the loosened debris and crusting.
  • Repeat twice a day.
