EMLA Cream 5% - Lidocaine 2.5% and Prilocaine 2.5% - Cream for topical anaesthesia. It is licensed in the UK as numbing cream for more than 20 years for cosmetic or medical needle and laser procedures.
Emla cream contains two medicines called Lidocaine and Prilocaine. These belong to a group of medicines called local anaesthetics. Emla works by numbing the surface of the skin for a short time, helping to stop pain felt on the skin.
Suitable for use before:
  • Injections.
  • Blood tests.
  • Tattoos.
  • Minor skin operations.
  • Laser Treatments
  • Cleaning or removal of damaged skin of leg ulcers.
  • Some types of skin graft.
NOT recommended for Premature Ejaculation. We recommend Stud 100.

Directions for Use:
Please carefully read enclosed leaflet before use for full instructions and warnings.
Always use Emla cream exactly as directed on the enclosed leaflet or as your doctor, pharmacist or nurse has told you.
Suitable for use on all ages. Consult a medication professional before use if unsure if this medication is right for you or your child.

Squeeze the cream into a mound where it is needed. Do not rub in.
Use a Tegaderm Dressing (plastic film dressing) to cover the area.
Apply at least 60 minutes before the procedure. For maximum application times dependent on age see enclosed leaflet.
Your doctor/nurse will remove the dressing and cream before they do the medical procedure.

Adults and children over 12 years old:
To use before having a needle put in: 2g applied 1-5 hours under a dressing.
To use before procedures on larger areas: 2g/10 square centimetres in size, applied 2-5 hours under a dressing.
The cream can also be used on babies & children, please refer to leaflet for directions.

Consult your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before use if you or your child:
  • have or may take any other medication including over-to-counter and herbal medication.
  • have inherited illness that affects the blood called 'glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency' or 'methaemoglobinaemia.
  • have a heart rhythm disorders.
  • are or may be pregnant or breastfeeding.
Warning:
  • Do not use if allergic to lidocaine, prilocaine, other similar local anaesthetics or any of the list ingredients.
  • Do not use on the cuts, grazes or wounds (except to clean leg ulcers), skin rashes, eczema, in or near the eyes/nose/ears/mouth/anus, or genitals (unless by a medical professional).
  • Not suitable for use on preterm newborn infants.
  • If applying to skin with atopic dermatitis shorten application time to 30 minutes.
  • If using before a live vaccine (e.g. tuberculosis vaccine) return to your doctor for a follow-up vaccination result.
  • Contains macrogolglycerol hydroxystearate which may cause skin reactions.
