An important message from Express Chemist

In these unprecedented times due to COVID-19 we are listening to the latest advice from the government and their health specialists. We are continuing to work in these challenging times so that we can serve the needs of our customers.

Please note that we are receiving a particularly high volume of orders, enquiries, telephone calls and emails. With a depleted team we are working exceptionally hard to process orders and respond to customer enquiries. Unfortunately it is currently taking longer to process and dispatch orders than usual, so please allow up to 5 working days for shipment.

Please also note that postal services and couriers are experiencing similar challenges so please allow longer delivery times than usual. We would be grateful if you can be patient and not contact us regarding your order before these times are up so we can reduce the pressure on our customer service team.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Keep well and stay safe.

Gaviscon

Gaviscon works by forming a raft (thick layer) on top of the stomach contents soon after it has made contact with the stomach acid. The raft acts as a strong physical barrier and helps keep all the components of the stomach contents in the stomach where they work, not letting them seep back up into the oesophagus where they hurt.

The terms heartburn and indigestion are often interchanged, but are actually two different conditions. Heartburn occurs when acid, which normally sits within the protected lining of the stomach, escapes back up into the oesophagus (food pipe). Because the oesophagus is not as well protected as the stomach the acid can irritate the lining. This can cause painful symptoms such as burning, pain (usually behind the breastbone) and a feeling of sickness (often described as a 'bad taste in mouth')

Indigestion can also be caused by acid irritation - hence the common confusion. The term 'indigestion' encompasses a range of digestive symptoms. These tend to be milder - in comparison with heartburn - but include pain/discomfort in the upper part of the stomach, sickness and nausea and an uncomfortable bloated feeling.
