Born in 1921 Guy Laroche started out as a hat maker branching out with his own fashion label in 1957. Gaining notoriety for his practical, wearable fashions, Laroche offered brightly coloured haute couture with deep neck and back-lines and was amongst the first to offer separates to the US fashion market.

He began releasing perfumes in 1966 with his most successful fragrance to date being the 80s perfume Drakkar Noir for men. Laroche died in 1989 but his perfumes live on released in the 21st century in association with L'oreal.
