Due to the new EU Herbal Legislation, Lamberts Horse Chestnut Complex will not be licensed and therefore can no longer be sourced from Lamberts as of the 30th April 2011. However, it will continue to be available through Express Chemist, whilst stock lasts. Within the next 18 months or so Lamberts will be replacing their Horse Chestnut Complex with Lamberts Horse Chestnut Tablets.
Lamberts Horse Chestnut Complex is a unique formula that combines four herbs in one tablet, which are thought to be useful for the health of the blood vessels. Horse Chestnut is traditionally used for the treatment of various circulatory disorders. Today, supported by modern research, these plant extracts are used by practitioners for vascular insufficiencies including bruising and chilblains.
An orange oval coated tablet.
60 tablets.
Helps maintain the health of blood vessels.
Deals with symptoms of varicose veins.
Contains powerful antioxidant properties.
Helps tone the veins and aids bloodflow.
Current investigations have attributed the positive effects that these plant materials have on the health of blood vessels to their ability to reduce small blood vessel 'permeability' or 'leakiness' (i.e anti-odema effect) alongside a significant tonifying effect on the vessels. Thus making this complex useful for dealing with the symptoms of varicose veins.
The plant materials in this complex have many active constituents, which may exert beneficial effects. A specific 'active' principle that has been identified in extracts of the horse chestnut seeds, more commonly known as conkers, is called 'aescin'. Lamberts Horse Chestnut complex is a high potency product and is standardised to contain a potent 50mg of aescin per tablet.
The four active herb ingredients are as follows...
Horse Chestnut Seed Extract (Aesculus Hippocastanum) - Aescin is the main active ingredient in Horse Chestnut and Lamberts have added a potent 50mg of this saponin-type compound to each tablet which, at 2 tablets daily, is the level used in studies.
Buthcher's Broom (Ruscus Aculeatus) - Butcher's Broom is a native Mediterranean plant that is regarded as a suitable partner to horse chestnut seed extracts.
Grapeseed Extract (Vitis Vinifera) - Extracts of the seeds of European grapes conatin one of the richest sources of anthocyanidins, and are included in this product, for their powerful antioxidant properties.
Rutin - Rutin is one of the most well-known flavonoids. Bioflavonoids demonstrate many specific effects including a strengthening effect on the capillaries.
