Itchy Anus (Pruritus Ani) Pruritus ani is a persistent itchy feeling around the anus. It is a common condition in both adults and children. In fact 1 in 20 people will develop it at some stage. Pruritus ani is a symptom, it is not a condition in itself, some of the most common causes are threadworms, haemorrhoids (piles) and fungal infections such as thrush.
