Joseph and Estee Lauder formed the Estee Lauder Company in New York in 1946. The company began to sell its goods in Saks Department Store, Fifth Avenue, two years later. By 1961 the company had gone international, selling in Harrods, London and Hong Kong. Estee was the only woman to feature on Time magazines list of the 20 most influential business figures of the 20th century.
