Canesten manufacture antifungal medication commonly used in the treatment of fungal yeast infections including thrush, athlete's foot, candida, ringworm and other skin conditions.
Canesten fungal infection treatments come in the form of creams, pessaries and sprays containing active ingredient clotrimazole, while their capsules contain active ingredient fluconozole.
Many Canesten products are suitable as male and female thrush treatments, such as Canesten Oral and Cream Duo and Canesten Oral Capsule, whereas products such as Canesten 500mg Soft Gel Pessary and Canesten Internal Cream are ideal for treatment of female thrush and candida symptoms.
Canesten also produce treatments for cystitis, athlete's foot and fungal skin infections, as well as an antifungal skin treatment made using active ingredient hydrocortisone.

What does the Canesten range treat?
Canesten treatments contain the active ingredient clotrimazole, an antifungal that is used to treat fungal and yeast infections. Clotrimazole is most commonly used to treat candida infections of the vagina (vulvitis), and candida infections of the skin such as fungal sweat rash and nappy rash.
The Canesten range of antifungals also provides treatment of conditions including female thrush (i.e. vaginal thrush or vulvitis), male thrush (balanitis), athlete's foot, and ringworm. Remember, thrush can be passed from partner to partner and back again. If you are treating yourself for thrush, it is advisable to treat your partner at the same time to avoid re-infection.
What active ingredients are in Canesten products?
The majority of Canesten products are based on the following active ingredients:
Clotrimazole - an antifungal that is applied to the skin (for example, for athlete's foot or candidal sweat rash) or external membranes such as the vagina or glans of the penis. This is found in the Canesten Thrush Cream (and hence in Canesten Duo), Canesten Pessary, Canesten Cream, Canesten AF and Canesten Hydrocortisone products.
Fluconazole - an antifungal that comes in tablet form, is swallowed and works inside the body to stop fungal infections from within the body. This is found in the Canesten Oral Capsule.
In addition, Canesten Hydrocortisone contains hydrocortisone, a powerful anti-inflammatory agent that should be used sparingly and only for short periods of time.
Canesten Oasis contains a mixture of acidic ingredients that provide effective relief for cystitis in many women.
What is the difference between "Canesten Thrush Cream" and "Canesten Cream"?
Canesten Thrush Cream (2% clotrimazole) is twice as strong as Canesten Cream (1% clotrimazole). The dosages are important, and so you should not use thrush cream for fungal skin infections or vice versa.How can I decide between all the Canesten thrush treatments?For male thrush, the simplest and most complete thrush treatment is Canesten Duo.
For female thrush, a variety of treatments are effective. Canesten Duo is effective, but some women may find the pessaries or internal creams more familiar, more effective or more convenient.
Whichever treatment you choose, remember that it is best to treat both yourself and your partner simultaneously, to prevent each partner from re-infecting the other.What is the difference between Canesten and Diflucan?Diflucan contains the same active ingredient as the Canesten Oral Capsule, and at the same strength. As Diflucan is no longer available over the counter, Express Chemist recommend Canesten Oral Capsule in place of Diflucan. The same capsule is also found in Canesten Duo, which is a combined capsule and cream for the treatment of thrush.
