Osteoporosis is a disorder in which the bones become increasingly porous, brittle and subject to fracture due to the loss of calcium and other mineral components.
Osteoporosis is a progressive condition and often there is no symptoms until the first fracture occurs.
Preventative measures can be taken to reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis.

  • Healthy eating, foods rich in calcium and vitamin D.
  • A daily supplement of vitamin D (10 micrograms).
  • Lifestyle changes, e.g. giving up smoking and reducing alcohol consumption.
