Cystitis is an infection of the bladder that causes a frequent need to urinate and often an uncomfortable burning sensation during urination. The most commom cause of Cystitis is infection from intestinal bacteria. This can be caused by poor toilet hygiene, a short urethra, pregnancy or an increase in sexual activity.
As a preventative measure it can be helpful for women prone to Cystitis to drink cranberry juice or take a cranberry supplement daily as this can prevent an infection from taking hold. Also maintaining good intimate hygiene e.g. wiping from front to back and avoiding perfumed products around the vaginal area is advised. Cystitis Treatments:
Preparations containing Sodium Citrate are only suitable for women suffering with Cystitis. For mild UTIs (Urinary Tract Infections) in men, women (not pregnant or breastfeeding) or children over the age of six then Potassium Citrate is suitable*. If symptoms persist for more than a couple of days after treatment visit your doctor.
