Benzoyl Peroxide is the main active ingredient of a number of treatments for spots and acne. Such treatments are typically available in gel or cream form and are applied directly to the affected areas. Benzoyl peroxide works by oxidising the skin, which helps to peel away the outer layer of spots and to clear the pores of dead skin. In addition, benzoyl peroxide kills bacteria, which is a root cause of inflammation and redness associated with spots and acne.
Products containing Benzoyl Peroxide
Most of the best spot and acne treatments contain Benzoyl Peroxide. This includes Quinoderm and Benzoyl Peroxide. Our complete list of benzoyl peroxide gels, creams, washes and lotions is shown further down this page.
The main exception to this is Freederm Gel, which contains nicotinamide rather than benzoyl peroxide. Nicotinamide works by reducing inflammation. This makes Freederm Gel suitable for red, inflamed spots. Of course, benzoyl peroxide is also suitable for red, inflamed spots.
