Manuka Honey Honey naturally contains hydrogen peroxide, once used as a wound disinfectant, and the enzyme glucose oxidase which has anti-bacterial properties. In fact the healing, antibacterial properties of honey have been known for thousands of years. From the Ancient Greeks right up until before the second world war honey was being used to treat wounds.
