Manuka Honey
Honey naturally contains hydrogen peroxide, once used as a wound disinfectant, and the enzyme glucose oxidase which has anti-bacterial properties. In fact the healing, antibacterial properties of honey have been known for thousands of years. From the Ancient Greeks right up until before the second world war honey was being used to treat wounds.
Manuka honey is special because alongside the hydrogen peroxide and glucose oxidase enzymes, it contains other, as yet unidentified, health boosting ingredients. Manuka honey has been found to be particulary beneficial in the healing of wounds and sores and is being used to reduce the chances of hospital patients contracting the MRSA superbug.
