F.O.S. can also be found naturally in onion, garlic and jerusalem artichoke. F.O.S. are not digested in the upper gastro-intestinal tract and reach the colon intact. Fructo-oligosaccharides help in 3 ways:- They maintain a high moisture content of faecal matter (reduce transit time) and lower the pH of the colon.
