Chondroitin Sulphate is now a popular supplement worldwide, following a number of positive studies and is usually combined with glucosamine as this compound works in a different but complimentary way.
- Glucosamine: essential for maintaining healthy cartilage by promoting its formation and repair.
- Chondroitin: thought to attract fluid into the cartilage and enhances its elasticity.
Chondroitin Sulphate is an important structural component of cartilage, the tough surfaces of bones, and forms a major part of the extra-cellular matrix that provides much of cartilage's resistance to compression. Chondroitin is thought to attract fluid into the cartilage this enhances its elasicity. It is also believed to inhibit the proteolytic enzyme that breaks-down cartilage.
*It is worth noting that a common practice with chondroitin supplements is to use preparations that are just 20% chondroitin, but the label may declare this as if it is 100% chondroitin. Therefore a supplement declared to as '400mg chondroitin Sulphate' is often just 80mg of chondroitin Sulphate. However, Lamberts supplement provides 330mg of a 90% chondroitin preparation to provide 330mg of pure marine chondroitin (per 3 tablets).
Each tablet provides a full 500mg of glucosamine sulphate (equivalent to 665mg glucosamine sulphate 2KCl) and 100mg of pure, marine sourced chondroitin sulphate. Lamberts chose to use the sulphate form of glucosamine and chondroitin becasue this is the material used in scientific studies.
Dosage: 1 tablet, 3 times daily.
Allergen advice: Glucosmaine Sulphate 2KCI is a pure compound derived from shellfish.
Disintegration Time: Less than 1 hour.
Caution: This product is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women.
