Pityriasis versicolor, also known as tinea versicolor, is a common skin condition caused by the excessive growth of a yeast fungus called Pityrosporum orbiculare (Malassezia furfur).
The affected area of skin, usually on the upper back and chest, becomes scaly and develops pale red or brownish patches. The condition is most noticeable on people with tanned or darker skin. Luckily the condition is not serious or contagious.
Outbreaks of this conditions can be treated with ketoconazole shampoo (Nizoral) and selenium sulphide shampoo (Selsun). Both are antifungals used primarily to treat scalp disorders.
Contains ketoconazole 2% which kills the cause of the condition. Simply apply undiluted to the affected areas and leave for 5 mins before washing off. Repeat this for 5 days. More >>>
