Painful Sexual Intercourse - Dyspareunia
Dyspareunia is when someone suffers pain during seuxal intercourse due to medical or psychological causes. This pain can be experienced even after the original physical cause has been removed.
This is largely experienced by women, although men can suffer pain also.
Common Physical Causes of Dyspareunia:
Vaginal Infection
Infection of the lower urinary tract, cervix or fallopian tubes.
Endometriosis
Surgical scar tissue e.g. following episiotomy, ovarian cysts and tumours.
Herpes
Patients undergoing radiotherapy
Pain can occur in three areas:
Vulvar pain
Vaginal pain
Pelvic pain
