About Lubricants
What lubricants do you recommend?Choosing a lubricant is as much a matter of personal taste. However, we have a few tips:- For a good all-round sexual lubricant, the Pjur range is hard to beat. Pjur Woman is a silicone-based lubricant, whereas Pjur Aqua is water-based.
- Sylk resembles the natural vaginal fluids in its consistency, and is thus good for women who suffer from vaginal dryness. Sylk is particularly popular amongst middle-aged and older women, though it can be used by any age group. It can be used as a sexual lubricant as well as for the insertion of tampons or pessaries.
- KY Jelly is an old favourite. Some people believe that the modern lubricants such as Pjur and Sylk are more fun, but there will always be those who swear by KY Kelly.
- Pre-Seed is designed for couples trying to conceive. It's a very thin lubricant and designed to help the sperm to swim up to their destination!
What are the relative advantages of water-based versus silicone-based lubricants?Silicone-based lubricants such as Pjur Woman are particularly slippery and long-lasting. However, some people find that they leave slight drip-marks on bed-sheets. These marks will disappear when the sheets are washed, but nonetheless some people prefer water-based lubricants such as Pjur Aqua or Sylk because they make less mess. Also, some people feel that water-based lubricants feel more "natural" than silicone-based ones.Why can't I just use oil or Vaseline?Oil-based products such as Vaseline can damage condoms. If you're not using a condom, Vaseline won't do any harm but then it's less fun than proper a sexual lubricant.
