Back acne and other body acne, such as chest acne, shoulder acne and acne of the buttocks can be a lot harder to treat then facial acne. This is because the skin of these areas is thicker and is often in contact with clothing that rubs and chafes. Like facial acne, back and body acne can have a profound negative effect on a persons wellbeing.
Like other forms of acne, the main cause of back acne is unknown, but there are many treatments available to ease the severity of the condition. With back acne and other forms of body acne, the best course of action is often the adoption of a thorough and consistent cleaning routine.

Back Acne Information

|
What is back acne?Quite simply, back acne is the occurance of acne on the back. Acne is also common on other areas of the body such as the chest, shoulders and buttocks.
Acne on the body is an unwelcome problem for many people around the world. It may be easier to hide than facial acne, but clothing often exacerbates the condition as it is in near constant contact with the skin, rubbing, chafing and generally causing further irritation. The skin is thicker in these areas as well, which can often make treatment more difficult than for acne on the face. What are the symptoms of the condition? The symptoms of acne of the back and body are similar with those of facial acne. The skin in covered in red, tender spots that develop into whiteheads (pimples). What is back acne caused by?The exact cause of acne is unknown. Hormones are often viewed as the culprit and some think diet could also play an important role. The physical appearance of acne is the result of sebaceous glands becoming blocked with excess sebum and dead skin cells. The condition can be worsened by stress, sweating and hormonal changes. How do I treat back acne?A thorough cleaning routine is perhaps the best way to tackle back acne and acne of the buttocks, chest and shoulders. A salicylic acid cleanser and a benzoyl peroxide treatment are highly recommended. A suggested course of action is to:- Gently wash the affected area with a cleanser of shower gel containing slaicylic acid.
- Delicately dry the acne covered area and allow to dry for 10-15 minutes.
- Further clean the area with a salicylic acid pad or cleansing wipe. Be careful not to cause irritation. if the area is too delicate, this step can be skipped.
- Once the skin is fully clean and dry, apply a benzoyl peroxide treatment such as an acne gel, cream or lotion.
- Once the cream, gel or lotion has fully dried, it is a good idea to finish off with a alpha hydroxy acid-based body moisturiser. This help exfoliate the skin and prevent it from drying out.
