What is the active ingredient in Alpecin?The active ingredient in Alpecin is caffeine. This is shown to have a positive effect on the growth of hair follicles.Why does caffeine protect the hair?Hair follicles grow in a growth phase, which usually lasts up to 8 years, followed by a resting phase of around a couple of months. Caffeine works to protect the hair from the effects of testosterone. This, in turn, lengthens the growth phase of the hair. For more information on this, see the Technical Information about Alpecin.Would drinking coffee work just as well as Alpecin?No, because if you drank coffee, not enough caffeine would reach the hair follicles.Would rubbing coffee into my hair work?Alpecin has been designed to help caffeine penetrate the scalp and work its way into the base of the hair follicle. In order to achieve this, Alpecin also contains ingredients that help carry and distribute the caffeine into the scalp. Coffee alone would not do this, and would also make your hair smell rather odd!Will Alpecin help me re-grow lost hair?No. Alpecin is designed for men who are prone to baldness or just showing the first signs of baldness. If you are totally bald, then your hair is probably dead, and Alpecin is probably no good for you. If you wish to re-grow lost hair, then you should use Regaine Extra Strength.
