Simvastatin 10mg tablets are one-a-day tablets which help to reduce the risk of a heart attack. They do this by lowering cholesterol levels and helping to reduce plaque build up in your arteries. People who have a fair risk of heart attack can help conserve a healthy heart by taking Simvastatin as part of a lifestyle program.

Simvastatin can help reduce the risk of a heart attack.
Simvastatin works by reducing your cholesterol. Cholesterol is made naturally by the body in the liver, it is absorbed from the foods that we eat. There are good cholesterols (high density lipoproteins) and bad cholesterols (low density lipoproteins), the bad cholesterols can build up causing your arteries to narrow. When the arteries are blocked, the risk of a heart attack increases as the amount of blood and oxygen going to the heart is restricted, causing angina and heart attacks.
You are at increased risk of a heart attack if you are a man aged between 45 and 54 or a women aged 55 and over. However, heart attacks in men aged 55 or over are more common. If you have a history of coronary heart disease in your immediate family then you could also be at risk of heart attack. Other factors which can increase the chance of having a heart attack include:
Being a smoker (now or in the last 5 years)
Being overweight (BMI over 25)
You are of south Asian ethnic origin.
Directions for Use: Take one tablet every evening. Tests have shown that Simvastatin can reduce low density lipoproteins by 27% after one month. When taken over a period of three years, Simvastatin has been shown to reduce your risk of a heart attack by 30%.
Caution: Do not take these tablets if you: have liver disease or have been told you have abnormal liver function, drink more than 4 units of alcohol per day (3 units for women), have had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients( see below for ingredients), are already taking cholesterol lowering medicines, are pregnant or trying to get pregnant or are breastfeeding, you have had muscle problems in the past after taking a cholesterol lowering medicine. Do not take this medicine if you are taking one of the following medicines: oral antifungal medicines, antibiotics (erythromycin, telithromycin or clarythromycin), HIV medication (protease inhibitors), the antidepressant called nefazodone, Ciclosporin, prescription cholesterol lowering medicines and blood thinning medicines such as warfarin.
Ingredients: Each tablet is film coated and contains - Simvastatin 10mg, Lactose, Cellulose, Maize Starch, Butylhydroxyanisole, Magnesium Stearate, Talc, Hyprolose, Hypromellose, Titanium Dioxide.
