Dermatophyte Infections
Dermatophytosis is the name for a group of fungal skin infections caused by parasitic fungi (dermatophytes).
Dermatophytes are responsible for fungal infections of the skin, hair and nails, such as ringworm, athlete's foot, jock itch and onychomycosis (fungal nail infection). Dermatophyte infections usually affect just the outer layer of skin, rarely do they invade living tissues.
Dermatophyte infections are very common amongst the adult population, with 1 in 5 of us having one at any given moment. Luckily, effective over-the-counter treatments are widely available.

Ringworm is a contagious fungal infection of the skin that affects people of all ages and can affect different areas of body including the feet, nails, skin, scalp or groin.
